WAIKOLOA, Hawaii -- Louie Bishop and Nate Pistacchio each shot scores of 2-under par 69 on Friday as UC Davis posted its best round of the tournament with a team score of 281 as the Aggies men's golf team finished in a tie for 13th at the Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate, played at the par 71, 6,777-yard Waikoloa Village Golf Course.
UC Davis was in 17th following Thursday's second round before rallying on Friday with a 3-under par team score. Bishop had a pair of scores in the 60's during the three-day event, nearly matching his opening round 68 with his 2-under 69 on Friday. He finished in a tie for 11th in the individual standings at 3-under 210.
Georgia Tech led the tournament wire-to-wire, finishing with a team score of 278 on Friday for an overall score of 27-under 825. That was good enough for a 14-shot victory over Oklahoma State which was second. Southern California (-12) was third, Hawaii (-2) was fourth and Stanford (+6) finished sixth.
Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech carded a 1-under 70 over the final 18 holes to finish one shot in front of Travis Toyama of Hawaii. Tringale finished the tournament at 11-under. Pablo Martin of Oklahoma State was third at -9.
Pistacchio had his best round of the tournament for UC Davis, matching Bishop with a 69. he finished the tournament at 6-over 219 and in a tie for 45h place. Matt Muscara shot a 75 Friday and tied for 55th at +8, Ramie Sprinkling fired an even-par 71 and tied for 67th at +10. Erik Hill had his best day on Friday, finishing with a 72, to complete the Aggies' scoring.
UC Davis, which was playing its first tournament of the spring season, will play at the Ashworth Collegiate Invitational in Westlake Village, Calif., on Feb. 27-28.
