Reno, Nev. - The UC Davis women's swimming and diving team made the trek down to Reno, Nev. on Saturday for a night dual against the Wolfapack at the Lombardi Recreation Center. Nevada earned the victory, 174-117, behind strong all around performances in the 16-event meet. The Aggies gained victories in several events including a top performance in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

This marks the third consecutive dual loss for the Aggies, who fall to 1-3 overall this season. This was the first official meet for Nevada.

Freshman Shannon Rachford and Heidi Kucera continue to step up and lead the Aggies this season. Rachford started off the meet with a victory in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:40.66. She also placed second in the 200 fly (2:13.03) and 500 free (5:16.18). Her time in the 1,000 free earns her a spot on the UC Davis all-time top-10 list.

Kucera picked up wins in both the 200 free (1:55.45) and the 200 IM (2:11.94) while also finishing second in the 200 breaststroke with a top-10 all-time finish time of 2:24.43.

Ashley Cayford also recorded a top-10 time as she finished second in the 100 breast in 1:05.37.

One of the highlights of the night for UC Davis was the 1-2-3 finish in the 200 IM. Bergen Beck and Cecilia Macchiavelli finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, behind Kucera with times of 2:19.64 and 2:24.32 in the 200 IM.

Jill Olson was right behind Kucera in the 200 free as she finished second in 1:56.04. UC Davis also won the 400 free relay as the team of Jennifer Ginsberg, Melanie Covert, Emily Medved and Olson finished first in 3:38.42.

The divers also returned to action after a sitting out the past two dual meets. Krysta Chaldekas was the top finisher on both 1-meter and 3-meter board as she finished fourth in both events.

The UC Davis men's and women's swimming and diving teams will get their first taste of conference competition this weekend as they compete in the Big West Shootout in Irvine. The meet is scheduled to run Nov. 3-4.
