The Aggies started off their Sunday morning well outscoring Western Water Polo Association foe Cal Lutheran 6-1 in the first quarter of play. Both teams were unable to score in the second, but the Aggie offense was able to find the back of the cage six times to increase the lead to 12-5 in the third. The Ags added four more goals in the fourth to end the game with a score of 16-6.
Jacobson scored three goals in the win while Conor Duignan, Kevin Bacharach, and Grant Muenter added two apiece. Five other Aggies contributed goals to the win. Junior goalie Erik Acevedo had seven saves in the game.
The second game of the day pitted UC Davis against another WWPA opponent, Redlands. The Ags kept the Bulldogs scoreless in the first while posting five goals of their own. In the second period the Bulldogs were able to break through the UC Davis defense to score their first two goals of the game. The score leading into halftime had the Aggies ahead 7-2.
Redlands outscored UC Davis 3-1 in the third cutting the Aggie lead to three points before entering the final quarter of play. The Bulldog defense shutout the Aggies in the fourth, but Redlands was unable to overcome the early deficit. The final score of the game was 8-6 in favor of the Ags. The Aggies' season record now stands at 7-7.
David Welch had two goals in the win while Jacobson added his fourth goal of the day. Sophomore goalkeeper Mike McGee tallied seven blocks in the match-up.
"Overall it was a good weekend. It was nice to get three wins. The guys played hard and are looking forward to having next weekend off. A lot of players were able to get minutes in this weekend's games and our depth helped us in our games," said assistant coach Jon Burke.
UC Davis will take a week off of competition and return to action Saturday, Oct. 8 when they take on Aggie Alumni in the first game to be played at Schaal Aquatics Complex this season. Game time is set for noon.
