LAWRENCE, Kan. - Nate Pistacchio fired a 3-under 69 in Monday's second round as UC Davis shot a 6-under 288 team score to put it in fifth place after 36 holes of the season-opening Kansas Invitational, being played at 7,092-yard, par 72 Alvamar Golf Club.
The host Jayhawks, led by tournament leader Gary Woodland who had a 66 in the second round, hold a two-shot lead over Tulsa. Kansas is at 13-under 563 while Tulsa is at 565. The Aggies had a 2-over 290 in their morning round and are at 4-under 572, one shot back of Houston and one shot in front of Lousiana-Monroe. Western Kentucky is in third place, just two shots in front of UC Davis.
The Aggies had two players break par in the second round. Pistacchio followed his opening round 74 with a 69 in the afternoon and is in 13th place at 1-under 143. Brett Borchers had a 79 over his first 18 holes but rebounded nicely later in the day, carding a team-best 68. He is tied for 43rd at 147.
Steve Strong had a pair of 72's and is tied for 21st at even-par 144, Ramie Sprinkling and Erik Hill matched each other with identical 72's and 73's in each round and are tied for 30th at 1-over 145.
Woodland holds a two-shot lead over Ryan Henry of Tulsa and Robby Shaw of Western Kentucky. Woodland is at 9-under 135 while Henry and Shaw are at 7-under 137. Woodland was the only tournament player to break 70 in each round.
The tournament's final 18 holds will be played Tuesday.
