LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 10 Aggie men's water polo team fell to Western Water Polo Association rival No. 11 Loyola Marymount 6-2 on Friday afternoon at LMU's Burns Recreation and Aquatic Center. UC Davis' Mike McGee posted an impressive season high 17 saves in the Aggies' loss.
Both teams kept each other scoreless throughout the first quarter with Lion goalkeeper Ian Elliot posting three saves and McGee knocking down five shots. The Lions broke through the Aggie defense in the second quarter and went on to tally five consecutive goals.
LMU's Ben Easton scored the first goal of the game, firing one in from slightly outside two-meters with 3:21 left in the quarter. Senior Endre Rex-Kiss followed suit scoring on a man-up power play. Easton added his second goal of the game with seven seconds remaining in the first half during another man-up situation.
Loyola Marymount came out of halftime and scored another goal just 47 seconds into the third quarter to bring their lead to 4-0. Lion Brain McShane added the final goal in LMU's five-point run with 3:33 left in the third. The Aggies finally put one on the board with a goal scored by Senior Conor Duignan on a four-meter penalty shot with 47 seconds left to play in the third.
Senior Patrick Jacobson scored the Aggies' second and last goal of the game in the fourth quarter followed by Brian McShane's second goal of the game for the Lions. The final score was 6-2 in favor of Loyola Marymount.
The win improves LMU's season record to 14-14 and 6-3 in the WWPA. UC Davis' season record is now 15-11 with a WWPA record of 12-2.
The Aggies head to UC San Diego Saturday to take on the Tritons at Canyonview Pool. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
