Mustangs Cruise To Three-Game Sweep

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Senior outside hitter Vanessa Gilliam recorded a match-high 16 kills and added five blocks, leading Cal Poly to a 30-24, 30-15, 30-13 sweep of UC Davis in non-conference women's collegiate volleyball action at Mott Gymnasium Saturday evening.

The Aggies move to 4-26 overall. The Mustangs finish the season at 19-6, completing a staggering improvement from their 5-24 campaign in 2004.

As a team, UC Davis managed just 22 kills as a team, hitting minus-.010 for the match. Jenny Pierce was one of three Aggies with a team-best four kills, hitting .667. Redshirt freshman Amy McMahon managed three kills and two block assists off the bench.

Gilliam contributed on five of her team's 11 total blocks, while Kylie Atherstone served up five of the Mustangs' 12 aces. Atherstone also provided nine kills and three blocks for the night.

UC Davis finishes its 2005 season at home against San Francisco on Tuesday.
