RENO, Nevada - Senior Salaia Salave'a posted a match-high 18 kills and hit .419 to lead Nevada to a 30-21, 30-21, 30-16 sweep over UC Davis in non-conference collegiate women's volleyball action at the Virginia Street Gym Tuesday evening.
The Aggies fall to 4-24 for the season. The Wolf Pack improves to 17-10 in their final home match.
No player had more than six kills for UC Davis, which suffered a 51-25 kill margin and a 46-35 deficit in digs. Freshman libero Nichole Brown tallied 12 digs for the Aggies defensively, while senior opposite Jill McPheeters recorded a pair of blocks.
Salave'a was the only player on either team to generate double-digit offensive numbers. Sophomore Teal Ericson contributed six kills and a .417 hitting average while sophomore middle Karly Sipherd figured on five of her team's eight blocks.
Nevada rushed out to a 7-2 lead in Game 1, then never trailed through the remainder of the game nor any portion of the second. Aggie middle blocker Katie Wilson had a block assist and an ace to help deliver a 2-0 start in Game 3, but senior Lindsay Holda later served up a 5-0 run to put Nevada out to an 8-5 advantage.
The Aggies managed to close in within a point, including a Paschetta kill that cut the Nevada lead to 17-16. However, the Wolf Pack scored 14 straight points, mostly behind the serving of Allison Hernandez, to close out the match and complete the sweep. Salave'a had six kills and a block assist in that final stretch.
UC Davis returns to action on Friday, November 18 for a road match at UC Santa Barbara. Match time is 7 p.m. at Robertson Gym.
