DAVIS, Calif. — Ivan Thamma and David Goulak are headed to Tulsa, Okla. for the 2019 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships on Saturday, while the rest of the team is set to compete at the Fresno Bulldog Classic Friday through Sunday in Fresno, Calif.
Making his second consecutive appearance at the All-American tournament, Thamma will debut in the prequalifying singles on Saturday. Joining Thamma, Goulak makes his first career appearance in his bid for All-American status, also in the prequalifying singles draw. The duo earned the northwest region's auto-bid into the doubles qualifying draw, which is set to begin Monday, Oct. 7. To advance out of either singles or doubles into the next draw, the competitor must win at least three rounds. Draws will be posted on the ITA homepage on Friday.
The bulk of the Aggie squad will be in competition on Friday in Fresno, competing in the Bulldog Classic. The Bulldog Classic will be comprised of three singles divisions, the Red, White, and Blue flights, and three doubles draws, with competitors from eight schools. Doubles draws will be released Friday morning at the tournament site, and play will begin at 1 PM with singles to follow.
Fresh off his Aggie Invitational wins, Andrei Volgin will be competing in the Red draw, taking on James Watt (St. Mary's) in the first round. Daniel Landa, Chethan Swanson, and Arjith Jayaraman are all featured in the top flight, with Landa playing Hermont Legaspi (Sacramento State), Swanson playing Paul Giruad (San Francisco), and Jayaraman playing Daniel Velek.
