DAVIS, Calif. — Entering its first season in the Mountain West Conference, UC Davis women's tennis looks to set the tone for the rest of the season in the first competition of fall at the Central Valley Clash from Sept. 25-27. The tournament pool will feature Sacramento State, UC Santa Cruz, and the host team Pacific. The Aggies will play all three schools in both singles and doubles competition throughout the weekend.

GAME NOTES

• New Year, New Conference: For the first time in nearly 20 years, the Aggies begin the season in a brand new conference, preparing for action in the Mountain West for this season.
• Built Bold For A New Era: Despite the departures of players such as Mika Ikemori, Maya Youssef, and Polina Marakhtanova, UC Davis retains many of its players from last season, allowing them to build a model of consistency in the new conference. Players Isabella Bringas, Vivian Gallaway, Aileena Hu, and Penelope Wong all return for the Aggies.
• Another Successful Pro-Am: Before the start of competition, UC Davis men's and women's tennis both took their philanthropy skills to the test in the 18th annual Aggie Pro-Am, an event designed to bring alumni and community members out to the Marya Welch Tennis Center while also raising funds for both programs. This year's event saw $50,000 raised for both teams as they begin play in their new conference.
• A Strong Incoming Class: Made up of three freshmen and two transfers, the incoming class for UC Davis looks to be a strong one. Australia native Elim Yan joins the team after two seasons with Tennessee, while Ramey Yu comes to Davis following all-conference seasons with UC Riverside.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS

• Host team Pacific is coming off of a 6-14 season with a 2-5 mark in WCC play a year ago.
• Last weekend, incoming senior Indiya McLeod became one of the first Tigers to compete in the ITA Singles All-American Championships, falling in the round of 256. McLeod led the team with an 11-4 record in singles last season.
• Sacramento State finished its final season in the Big Sky Conference in 2025-26 with a 19-6 record, winning the Big Sky Conference Championship for the third consecutive year. The Hornets went on to lose to No. 13 USC in the NCAA Tournament. 
• Sac State has also brought in one of the strongest recruiting classes among mid-major programs over the summer, being ranked 12th in the nation among schools that aren't a part of major college tennis conferences such as the SEC and Ivy League.
• UC Santa Cruz is coming off of a 9-10 record in Division III last season.
• The Slugs retain a large number of players from last year with seven returners. Chloe Wu remains the only senior for the team after collecting 14 singles wins and 16 doubles wins last season.

SEASON NOTES

• 2026-27 marks year three for head coach Sara Jackson, the successor to Aggies and collegiate tennis hall of famer Bill Maze.
• Returning for his third season as well is assistant coach Matthew Foster-Estwick.
• The team is made up of nine players this season, including three freshmen. The returning freshmen include Delilah Rizvi, Lyla Van Loben Sels, and Eva Wang. 
• With a new batch of opponents scheduled for the Aggies this season, the program looks to continue to grow on the national stage. Entering this first Mountain West year, the team will look to compete for a conference title and make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the Division I era.
