DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis announced its 2026-27 swim and dive schedule including seven home events in the Aggies' inaugural campaign as a member of the Mountain West Conference.
The season begins on a pair of back-to-back Saturday mornings in September at Schall Aquatics Center in Davis with the Alumni Meet (Sept. 19) and Blue vs. Gold Intersquad (Sept. 26) with both getting underway at 9 a.m. PT. At the Alumni Meet, the Aggies will also celebrate long-time diving coach Phil Tonne, who retired in June of 2026 after 47 years of collegiate coaching, including the last 22 as the head diving coach at UC Davis.
The regular-season opener is a swim only meet at Pacific on Oct. 3 (10 am PT) and the divers join the action for the first regular-season home meet against Nevada on Oct. 9 (1 pm). Both swim and dive will also compete in their final home meet of the fall season against UC San Diego on Oct. 31 (Noon).
In between, the Aggies travel to the Gary Ota Invite hosted by Fresno State (Oct. 16-17).
The fall season wraps up with three events on the road in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and St. George, Utah, at the dive only Trojan Diving Invite (Nov. 12-14) hosted by USC and UNLV Diving Invite (Dec. 14-16) with the swim only Trailblazer Invite (Nov. 18-21) hosted by Utah Tech in between.
Schaal Aquatics Center in Davis will be a busy venue in the New Year with the Aggies hosting three January meets against Saint's Mary's (Jan. 2), Fresno State (Jan. 16) and San Jose State (Jan. 30). Each of the meets are scheduled to start at Noon.
The Aggies will also travel twice in January for a diving only meet at Cal (Jan. 8-9) and a tri-meet in Stockton against Pacific and UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 17).
UC Davis will participate Feb. 16-20 in its first Mountain West Championships in Houston before the season wraps Mar. 17-20 just down the road in Austin at the NCAA Championships.
"We have a lot in store for the upcoming season including eight home events," head swim coach Matt Macedo said. "We're excited about the opportunities our swimmers and divers will have to perform in front of a hometown crowd on several occasions."
"I am thrilled to be continuing with the Aggie diving program in my new role as head coach," added Laurel Abernethy, who was elevated to the role in the summer of 2026. "It's an honor to carry on the tradition of the legendary Phil Tonne, and I just want to do my part to help make Davis a destination for the top divers in the country."
