Volleyball Garners Two Mountain West Player of the Week Honors; Umpierre Named Freshman and Cordero Barr Voted Defensive Player

LAS VEGAS — With the first competitions of the season at their backs, UC Davis volleyball sees two of three Old Trapper Mountain West Players of the Week go their way. Isabella Umpierre was named the conference's Freshman of the Week while Ximena Cordero Barr was awarded the Defensive Player of the Week.

A freshman from Windermere, Fla., Umpierre made a large impact in just her first three games of collegiate competition, totaling 33 kills and 20 digs.

After two kills in the opener against Colorado State, she collected 13 in the Aggies four-set win against Northern Colorado the next day, also putting up nine digs. On Sunday versus No. 11 SMU, she led the offense with 18 kills while grabbing her first double-double with 10 digs, also dropping in two service aces in a near upset of the Mustangs.

Named Defensive Player of the Week three times last season, Cordero Barr makes it four in her first weekly award as a member of the Mountain West Conference.

In the trio of matches played in Colorado over the weekend, she garnered 43 total digs to captain the defense while also gathering five assists against SMU and a service ace versus Northern Colorado and the Mustangs.

These performances led to good results for the Aggies over the weekend, beating preseason Big Sky No. 1 Northern Colorado and pushing the 11th ranked Mustangs to five sets in what would have been the first ranked win in program history.

UP NEXT

The Aggies return home for the first time this season as they prepare to host the Aggie Invitational from Sept. 3-5. Action begins on Thursday, Sept. 3 against San Diego State at 6:00 pm PT.
