Women's Soccer Adds Travis Clarke to Coaching Staff

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis women's soccer head coach Kat Mertz has announced the addition of Travis Clarke to the program's coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Clarke joins the Aggies with 13 years of NCAA Division I and Division II head coaching experience and 126 career head coaching wins.

Clarke most recently served as an assistant coach at Stanislaus State in 2025, helping the Warriors to an 11-5-4 overall record and a CCAA Tournament semifinal appearance. He previously spent three seasons as an assistant at Sonoma State from 2022 to 2025.

Before returning to the assistant ranks, Clarke spent six seasons as the head coach at Saint Mary's College of California from 2014 to 2019. Clarke led the Gaels to a No. 10 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches West Region Poll in 2019 and the 2018 TD Bank Classic Tournament championship at the University of Vermont. Saint Mary's posted notable wins and ties against UC Santa Barbara, Portland, San Diego, Pepperdine, California, Santa Clara, Gonzaga and Loyola Marymount during his tenure, and the Gaels earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award in each season from 2015 to 2018. Six former Saint Mary's players signed professional contracts during or after his time leading the program, including Hannah Diaz, who earned a U.S. Under-23 National Team pool selection in 2017 before signing with Orca Kamogawa FC in Japan and the Houston Dash.

Clarke also spent six seasons as the head coach at Cal State San Bernardino from 2009 to 2014, leading the Coyotes to back-to-back postseason appearances in 2013 and 2014, the 2013 NCAA West Region Finals and a No. 1 West Region ranking in 2014.  In addition, the team was ranked as the #1 defensive NCAA DII team in the nation.

Clarke launched his head coaching career as the first head coach in University of Hawaii at Hilo women's soccer history, serving from 2006 to 2009. The Vulcans were the third most-improved NCAA Division II program in the country in 2007 and posted back-to-back regional Top 10 finishes in 2007 and 2008, with Clarke's teams combining for 25 wins across the two seasons.  Prior to UH Hilo, Clarke served as an assistant men's coach at Santa Barbara City College and Allan Hancock College where each program won a conference championship.

Clarke holds both a Master of Arts in education leadership and administration and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Cal Poly.
