Women’s Water Polo Travels South for Three-Game Road Trip

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis women's water polo heads to Southern California this weekend for a three-game road stint beginning Friday, Mar. 27, against UC San Diego at 6:00 p.m. PT. The Aggies will remain in La Jolla to face Brown in a neutral-site matchup on Saturday, Mar. 28, at 11:00 a.m. PT, before concluding the trip at Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, Mar. 29, at 12:00 p.m. PT.

GAME NOTES
  • Last Time Out: The Aggies are 10-12 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. The team last competed at home on Friday, Mar. 13, falling 9-8 in a narrow match against No. 6 Hawai'i, before traveling to face UC Merced on Saturday, Mar. 14, where they secured a dominant 23-1 victory.
  • Top Goal Scorers: Chelsea Johnson continues to lead the Aggies, netting four goals against Hawai'i to bring her team-leading total to 38 goals on the season. Close behind her are Gianna Nocetti and Ashley Wallin, who sit at 31 and 28 goals, respectively. Wallin continues to serve as the team's top distributor, leading the Big West with 49 assists—a mark that consistently ranks among the top of the Big West and the NCAA.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
  • UC San Diego is 9-10 on the season and 2-3 in conference play, most recently competing at the Aztec Invite where they faced Harvard, Indiana, and San Jose State.
  • The Tritons' attack is led by Abigail Schechter, who has tallied 46 goals on the season, ranking her fifth in the Big West for total goals.
  • Defensively, goalkeeper Bria Zwaschka anchors the team in the cage with over 500 minutes played and 150 saves on the year.

SEASON NOTES
  • UC Davis is led by Jamey Wright and Hodgens Family Director of Women's Water Polo Kandace Waldthaler, who enters her fourth season as head coach and 15th season overall on staff.
  • Returning for her third season is former Aggie and current assistant coach Dakotah Sturla.
  • The Aggies return a strong core of returning players. Coming off an appearance at the 2025 World Aquatics U20 Water Polo Championships, Chelsea Johnson enters year three looking to use her international experience to elevate the Aggies to new heights. After leading the offense a year ago, Bridget Miller also enters her third season for the team, being selected to the preseason All-Big West Team.
  • Despite the departure of all-time assist leader Kelly Hungerford, UC Davis brings in a strong recruiting class, with Hanalora Abel, Adi Englebert, Megan Garner, Audrey Quilala, and Sydney Rubin joining the Aggies.
  • With the team joining the Golden Coast Conference in 2027, this season will mark the last in the Big West for the Aggies.
