The short story:
UC Davis softball battled hard over two games, but ultimately fell to UC San Diego in a doubleheader, dropping both games played at Triton Softball Field.

LEADING OFF
  • Both Sydney Polli and Naomi Kalanetra had a big day, each going 2-for-4 with Kalanetra hitting a home run and scoring three runs in the two games
  • For Kalanetra, the home run in the first game made it three-straight games with one home run hit
  • The Aggies stole four bases over the two games, drew 10 walks, hit two doubles and one home run over the pair of games
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
  • The Aggies would take an early lead, scoring when Abby Lee singled home Kalanetra in the second inning
  • But in the bottom half of that frame, UC San Diego brought home six runs, and with three more in the fourth and fifth innings, the Tritons built out a lead the Aggies could not overcome
  • In the seventh, Kalanetra smashed her a home run over the center field wall for what was her third home run in her third straight game, but the late power would not be enough as UC San Diego finished off its 9-4 game one victory
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
  • UC Davis scored in the first to take another early lead, but much like the first game UC San Diego had an answer scoring three in the second to jump ahead 3-1
  • One in the fifth and two in the six allowed for UC San Diego to build on its lead, and it needed those runs since the Aggies battled back over the final two frames
  • In the sixth, Alyssa Dethlefson doubled home Kalanetra and Marley Panziera and in the seventh Rylee Reeves doubled home Gia Felice
  • But the late runs were not enough as the Aggies would drop the second game, 6-4, despite putting a strong effort together over those final two frames in a comeback attempt
