The short story: UC Davis softball had its historic 2026 season come to an end in a close battle against Long Beach State, ending the Aggie run at the Big West Championships in their final game as a member of the Big West.

LEADING OFF
- The Aggie season comes to an end after dropping a pair of games on the second day of the Big West Championships
- Rylee Reeves and Alyssa Dethlefson led the Aggies with two hits each, with Dethlefson adding an RBI
- Gia Felice, Claire Shelton and Kayla Macias each smacked a double in the game
- Caroline Grimes ended her stellar career throwing the final 1.2 innings, keeping Long Beach State off the board and allowing just one walk
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Long Beach State opened the game with three runs in the first to take an early 3-0 lead
- From the second to fifth innings the Aggie starter, Ashley Sawai, locked in to keep Long Beach State off the board, which including sitting down the Beach in order in the third and fifth frames
- The Beach scored three more in the sixth to add to its lead and took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth
- Dethlefson knocked in a run during the Aggie bottom of the sixth, putting UC Davis on the board but it would be the only run the Aggies would get as the season came to an end in the 6-1 loss.Â
