The short story: Naomi Kalanetra smashed a two-run home run to provide power for UC Davis softball, but the Aggie catcher's blast would not be enough in a loss to Nevada in the first of five games for the Aggies over the weekend hosting the Capital Classic.
Â
LEADING OFF
- Kalanetra's home run was the first of her career, and she finished the day going 1-for-2 with two RBIs and one walk
- Alyssa Dethlefson continued her hot hitting, going 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot, scoring one run and stealing one base
- Gia Felice scored a pair of runs, going 1-for-3 with one walk
- Caroline Grimes made the start, striking out three in three innings of work
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nevada got on the board early in the first, scoring one run on an RBI double, and it gave Nevada an early 1-0 lead
- But Kalanetra put the Aggies in front in the bottom half, scoring Felice after she hit a no-doubt home run to left field making it 2-1 after the opening frame
- Two runs in both the second and third innings meant that Nevada would retake the lead at 5-2 after three frames
- UC Davis did get one in the fifth and one more in the seventh, but four runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh allowed Nevada to build out its eventual 12-4 winÂ
