Â
The short story: Despite a powerful outpouring from Syndey Polli, UC Davis softball gave up runs in the late innings to Quinnipiac, falling for a second time in the Aggies' second day at the UNLV Desert Classic.
Â
LEADING OFF
- Polli had an explosive day at the dish, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one double and three RBIs
- Rylee Reeves was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Alyssa Dethlefson led off going 2-for-4 with one stolen base
- Caroline Grimes threw 5.1 innings of relief, striking out three while giving up just two earned runsÂ
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Quinnipiac scored two in the first, but the Aggies had a response in the second lined up
- With two Ags on, Polli got her first crack at things and on an 0-2 count smashed two RBI double to left center to score Reeves and Claire Shelton to tie things at 2-2
- In the fourth, Shelton doubled home Kayla Macias before Polli struck again, this time hitting a triple to right center that scored Shelton from second to make it 4-2
- The Aggies would get one more across in the fifth, but 10 runs scored by Quinnipiac over the final three frames, including seven in the seventh, would end any Aggie hopes for a victoryÂ
