LA JOLLA, Calif. — UC Davis women's water polo opened day two of the Triton Invitational powered by
Bridget Miller's six goal performance, with a dominant 12–5 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, before capping the day with an 11–6 victory against San Diego State, utilizing fast starts and sustained pressure in both contests.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
- UC Davis set the tone early as Bridget Miller scored three goals in the opening three minutes, completing a first-quarter hat trick to give the Aggies an early lead.
- The Athenas got on the board with a goal of their own, but the Aggies answered late in the quarter when Ashley Wallin found the back of the net, sending UC Davis ahead into the second quarter, 4–1.
- Sadie Henry opened the second quarter scoring, followed by back-to-back goals from Liberty Massen and Sofia Bozzo as the Aggies continued to build momentum.
- UC Davis carried a 7–1 advantage into halftime after controlling play on both ends of the pool.
- The Athenas struck first coming out of the break, but the Aggies quickly responded with three uncontested goals from Madison Sparre, Miller, and Henry to extend the lead.
- The Athenas mounted a late push in the fourth quarter, scoring three times, but Sparre answered with her second goal of the match to keep UC Davis in control.
- Freshman Addison Engelbert closed the scoring with her first goal of the game as the Aggies secured a 12–5 victory.\
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
- San Diego State opened the scoring in the first quarter before Chelsea Johnson answered to even the match at 1–1.
- Bridget Miller and Gianna Nocetti followed with back-to-back goals to give UC Davis the early edge.
- The Aztecs responded with a goal, but Liberty Massen kept the Aggies in front with a score of her own.
- San Diego State added one more goal, and UC Davis closed the first quarter leading 4–3.
- The Aggies opened the second quarter strong with a goal from Ashley Wallin, followed by an uncontested goal from Ally Smith.
- The Aztecs scored late in the half, but UC Davis carried a 6–4 advantage into halftime.
- San Diego State struck early in the third quarter, but Smith responded with a contested goal to maintain the Aggies' lead.
- The Aztecs scored again, but Sadie Henry answered to prevent UC San Diego from pulling ahead.
- HanaLora Abel capitalized on UC Davis' momentum with her first goal of the game late in the third quarter.
- To secure her sixth goal, Miller opened the fourth quarter scoring, and Lillie Vehling sealed the victory with a late goal as UC Davis pulled away for an 11–6 win.
