The short story: UC Davis field hockey came up short in a 2-0 loss to No. 7 Michigan, but the Aggies impressed with a strong defensive showing that limited the nationally ranked Wolverines' attack and kept the game within reach until the final whistle.
PITCH SIDE 
·       Using a total team effort, 18 different Aggies appeared in today's game.
·       The Aggies got their first penalty stroke opportunity of the season.
·       Freshman goalkeeper saved six shots preventing Michigan from scoring further.  
HOW IT HAPPENED
·       The Wolverines came out strong, earning a penalty corner in the opening minute of play.
·       Michigan recorded two shots in the first quarter, but the scoreboard remained level at 0-0.
·       The Wolverines were awarded four penalty corners in the second quarter, yet the Aggie defense held firm to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
·       Michigan broke through in the first minute of the second half, converting to take the lead.
·       Less than a minute later, the Wolverines doubled their advantage with a well-executed penalty corner.
·       UC Davis created two penalty-corner chances late in the third quarter but was unable to capitalize.
·       In the 56th minute, two Michigan players were issued green cards, giving the Aggies a brief advantage.
·       UC Davis nearly pulled closer when awarded a penalty stroke, but junior midfielder Morgan Caldera's attempt was denied.
·       With under a minute remaining, the Aggies earned one final penalty corner opportunity but couldn't convert for a last-second goal.
