The short story: UC Davis took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 6-2 victory against Utah Tech on Tuesday in the final midweek game of the season.
FIRST PITCH
- Matthew Barnes II picked up the victory out of the bullpen for UC Davis
- The right-hander went two shutout innings while giving up one hit, allowing no walks and striking out three
- Noel Valdez delivered another strong start to the ballgame throwing, three shutout innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and five strikeouts
- On the offensive side of things, Korey Williams paced the Aggies with a 2-for-3 day, collecting three RBIs
- Ryan Lee joined in on the efforts alongside Williams with a 2-for-3 day as well, while also coming across to score three runs
- Williams, Lee and Jason Hanson represented a trio of Aggies to collect a pair of hits
- This trio helped the Aggies out-hit the Trailblazers at a 9-6 clip
- UC Davis pitchers limited Utah Tech to just 1-for-5 (.200) with runners in scoring position
- Utah Tech was led offensively by Ryan Kroepel, who went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Aggies offense got started early, scoring three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Williams
- The Trailblazers failed to push any runs across before the Aggies built on their lead in the third inning when Lee came across to score the lone run of the inning for UC Davis, which brought the Aggies lead to 4-0
- UC Davis kept Utah Tech scoreless before building their lead to 6-0 in the fifth inning
- Utah Tech added a run in the top of the sixth and another in the seventh to make it 6-2 but Mason Lerma and Carter Delaney closed to door in the eighth and ninth respectively to secure the Aggie win
