The short story: UC Davis ambushed Sacramento State in the first of three regular season Causeway matchups, dominating from start to finish on their way to a 14-0 win, Tuesday night at Dobbins Stadium.

FIRST PITCH
- Five UC Davis arms combined to spin a four-hit shutout, silencing Sacramento State all night
- Noel Valdez earned the win, dealing four scoreless frames with two hits allowed, one walk, and five punchouts
- Reliever Max Hippensteel was equally dominant, fanning four over two innings of work, including striking out the side in the sixth
- Rowen Barnes, Jack Meek and Mason Lerma accounted for the other three Aggie arms to combine for UC Davis' third shutout of the season
- The UC Davis offense erupted early, plating six in the first inning and never looked back
- Braydon Wooldridge paced the attack with a trio of knocks, while Houston Hirschkorn delivered two extra-base hits off the bench
- Ryan Lee starred at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI, part of an Aggie lineup that saw every starter reach base
- UC Davis hitters made the most of their opportunities with runners in scoring position going 8-for-19 in such situations, while their pitchers stranded Hornets runners, holding them to a hitless 0-for-7 in clutch spots
- The Aggies' staff racked up 13 strikeouts, while the offense out-hit Sacramento State 17-4, and drew seven free passes
- With the win, UC Davis extended its recent Causeway dominance, securing a fourth straight victory over the Hornets after sweeping last year's series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Aggies took the lead for good in the first, scoring six runs with a three-run double off the bat of Zach Story, a two-run triple from Lee, and a single from Wooldridge
- UC Davis added three more runs in the second, with Nick Leehey and Riley Acosta single's responsible for the Aggie RBIs of the inning
- Mark Wolbert extended his hitting streak to seven games, and increased the lead to double-digits in the fourth with a two-RBI single through the right side of the infield to give the Aggies a commanding 11-0 advantage
- The Aggies also added runs in the seventh to cap off the 14-0 victory
