The short story: ​On senior day, the UC Davis women's tennis team secured a 5-2 victory over Idaho, clinching the doubles point early, then extending their lead in thrilling singles play.  

COURTSIDE 

• The Aggies took the early lead, grabbing the doubles point. 

• Mika Ikemori won her singles match in three sets. 

• Solia Valentine won her singles match in two sets. 

• Maya Youssef won her singles match in three sets. 

• Polina Marakhtanova won her singles match in two sets. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Aggies opened up the morning with doubles, where Daisy Maunupau and Mika Ikemori finished first, dominating their opponents for the first win of the match. 

• Next to finish was the pair of Solia Valentine and Polina Marakhtanova, who also won their match and clinched the early doubles point. 

• Claire Galerkin and Kaia Wolfe were the last pair to finish, winning their match and sweeping doubles for the Aggies. 

• On to singles, freshman Marakhtanova was the first to finish, taking down her opponent in two quick sets. 

• Next to follow would be her doubles partner, Valentine, who fought through a tiebreaker and ultimately won her match in two sets, making the score 3-0. 

• Junior Maya Youssef would finish next. Youssef won the first set, lost the second, and fought through the end to inevitably win and clinch the dual match victory for the Aggies. 

• Both teams decided to play out the rest of the matches even though UC Davis had already won. 

• Daisy Maunupau would fall on her senior day in three long sets to her Vandel opponent. 

• Freshman Penelope Wong fought through a long second set but could not come out with a win, making the score 4-2. 

• Last to finish was sophomore Mika Ikemori, who took her match to three long sets. Ikemori fought and ultimately came out with a thrilling win to make the final score 5-2.
