The short story: UC Davis softball took its final game of the weekend against UC San Diego behind a powerful offensive outburst and six shutdown innings from
Ashley Sawai in the Big West weekend finale.

LEADING OFF
- Sawai threw six frames, giving up zero earned runs while strikeout out four batters in a strong outing
- Gia Felice went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, having smacked a double in the game
- Grace Kilday finished 2-for-4 at the dish with one triple, four RBIs and one run scored
- Marley Panziera had a 2-for-3 day at the dish, smacking a double with one RBI and one run scored
- Sydney Polli scored a run, knocked in two, walked twice and went 2-for-3 in a strong day at the plate
- Mickey Buscemi added a pair of hits, with two runs scored
- Alyssa Dethlefson smashed a triple in the game, scoring one run as well
- Bella Holtz came in to pinch hit, and hit a double in her lone at-bat to record two RBIs
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Aggies did not waste any time getting on the board, scoring in the first when Panziera singled up the middle that score Polli making it 1-0 after just one frame
- Over the first three frames, Sawai allowed just two base runners in lockdown pitching that allowed the Aggies to break things open comfortably
- In the fourth, UC Davis opened the game up in a big way, exploding for six runs
- Felice singled home the first with no outs, before Holtz smashed a pinch hit double to left to make it 4-0 with just one out
- Two more Aggies came home when Kilday tripled to dead center that took the UC San Diego defender into the wall and making the score 6-0
- One more run came across for the Aggies when Kilday scored on a Polli ground out and after four frames the Aggies had built out a 7-0 lead
- On more run in the fifth helped counter the first UC San Deigo run and keep the run rule in play
- The Tritons would score three in the top of the sixth to cut the Aggie lead to 8-4 but in the bottom half of the sixth the Aggies would finish things off
- Dethlefson led off with a triple and scored when Felice doubled her home
- Olivia McFarland's RBI single up the middle kept things rolling for the Aggies and with the score a 10-4 the bases became loaded with Aggies
- Kilday singled home McFarland to make it 11-4 and following Polli's walk-off walk the Aggies finished off its 12-4 win over UC San Diego
UP NEXT FOR THE AGGIES: UC Davis next hits the road for a Big West weekend series at Cal State Fullerton set to run from April 18-19. The Aggies next return home on April 22 when they welcome Fresno State for a midweek game.
