The short story: Alyssa Dethlefson tossed a complete game, only allowing two earned runs, in a midweek match up UC Davis softball loss at home to California.
Â
LEADING OFF
- Dethlefson struck out two and walked just two in the seven frames, with two only two of Cal's seven runs being earned
- The top three Aggie batters each for two hits, going a combined 6-11 with two RBIs and one run scored
- Mickey Buscemi led off, going 2-for-4 with one RBI and one double
- Gia Felice batted second, going 2-for-3 with one walk and one run scored
- Dethlefson went 2-for-4 with one RBI
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cal scored four runs in the opening frame, getting things started with a lead off home run before adding three more in the inning
- In the second, the Golden Bears added one more to make it 5-0 as the Aggies came to the plate in the bottom half of the second inning
- With two outs, and the Aggies needing a hit, Buscemi doubled to center field to score Vanessa Calvillo from second to get the Aggies on the board at 5-1
- In the third, the Aggies got one more when Bella Holtz was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Felice to make it 5-2
- But the Aggies could not score another run in the frame, keeping it at 5-2
- In the fourth, Cal added two more advancing its lead to 7-2
- Dethlefson knocked in one more in the bottom half of the fourth, but it would be the last runs the Aggies scored over the final two frames
- And despite Dethlefson getting better as the game went along, the Aggie offense could not erase the deficit in the 7-3 loss.
UP NEXT FOR THE AGGIES: UC Davis hits the road for its Big West opening weekend, heading to Bakersfield, Calif., where they will face Cal State Bakersfield over the weekend of Mar. 7-8.
