The short story: Despite singles wins from Lucas Bollinger and Perry DiGiulio, the UC Davis men's tennis team took a 2-5 loss to the Santa Clara Broncos on Friday, Feb. 21.
 
COURTSIDE 

• The Broncos and Aggies were tied at one game apiece in the doubles competition before Santa Clara took the point in extra sets of the third match.
• Lucas Bollinger and Perry DiGiulio won their singles matches for the only Aggie points of the day.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED 

• The Aggies opened competition with doubles. Bollinger and Kaveh Taheri dropped the first match before Ivan Savkin and Ryan Torres came back to win the second match.
• In the point-deciding third match, DiGiulio and Sam De Vries battled to the end, forcing the Broncos into an extra set, but Santa Clara would come out victorious, winning 7-6 to clinch the doubles point.
• Now in singles competition, the first Aggie to finish was Savkin, who fell in two sets.
• Bollinger took the court for his singles debut of the afternoon, quickly taking the two-set victory to give the Aggies their first point of the competition.
• De Vries was next, who dropped his match in two.
• With his team down 3-1, DiGiulio battled in extras to down his opponent in two sets and put the Aggies back within one point.
• Looking to give their team the win, Taheri and Torres battled hard for three sets, but each of them would come up just short as the hometown Broncos would take the 5-2 win.
