Â
FIRST SERVE
- In addition to Light's 14 kills, Brooke Hibino (13), Ally Chandler (11), and Breeze Czapinski (11) also recorded double-digit kills for the Aggies.
- Ximena Cordero Barr protected the backline with 13 digs. Light also helped the defense with seven digs on the night.
- Allie Caldwell and Hibino each protected the net with a team-high two total blocks.
- Mia Starr orchestrated the offense with 44 assists; she also had seven digs and a block assist on the defense.
WHAT HEAD COACH DAN CONNERS HAD TO SAY
"We weren't at our best tonight. Too many plays where we lacked discipline. We did not defend the way that we are capable of. Had opportunities to take big swings and didn't, and that cost us. Long Beach was more willing to be aggressive and take chances. We will have to use this as an opportunity to learn and grow."
Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- After the Beach got things going, Czapinski knocked down the first kill of the night off an assist from Starr.
- Light cashed a service ace and Hibino had a pair of kills, but Davis found themselves down 10-15 at the media timeout.
- Coming out of the break, the Aggies continued to exchange points with their opponent. Despite an ace from Starr and a pair of kills from Czapinski, Long Beach won set one 25-19.
- UC Davis kept offensive momentum going early in set two, with a Hibino kill tying the frame at six apiece.
- Despite two late kills from Maike Bertens Deckart, LBSU outscored the Aggies 19-9 through the final part of the set to win 25-15 and go up 2-0 in the match.
- In set three, Davis came out of the gate red hot, scoring eight of the first ten using defense from Chandler and Starr.
- With every kill from the home team, the Aggies responded with a point of their own, with a kill from Czapinski putting them up 16-6 after the halfway mark of the set.
- Up 22-14, service from Starr forced Long Beach State into three straight errors to give Davis a 25-14 win and extend the match to a fourth set.
- Set four was a back-and-forth battle all the way through, with another Light kill giving Davis an 11-9 lead.
- After a 5-2 response from the Beach, the Aggies battled back in the lead with three straight to take a late 19-18 advantage.
- Both clubs continued to trade blows into the red zone, with Hibino's 11th kill tying things at 23 apiece.
- However, back-to-back points from Long Beach State spelled a 3-1 victory for the home team, ending a four-game win streak for UC Davis.
