DAVIS, Calif. – Off the heels of a statement win over previously ranked No. 5 TCU, the UC Davis equestrian team continues its upward momentum in the NCEA Dual Discipline Coaches Poll, rising to No. 9 in this week's rankings released this morning.
The Aggies entered the rankings for the first time this season last week at No. 10, following a 12-7 home win over South Dakota State. They solidified their place among the nation's top programs on Thursday with a 13-7 victory over TCU, marking the first time in program history UC Davis has defeated their top-5 opponent.
Thursday's meet featured several strong individual performances that led the Aggies to their win. Junior Lauren Kolbe earned MOP honors in Flat with a score of 88 and also posted the highest score in Fences. In Fences, Kolbe was closely followed by Anna Donovan and Sabine Close, who each delivered 83 point rides. On the Western side, sophomore Eliza Plum led Horsemanship with a 75, just ahead of teammate Alexa Brown, who scored a 74.5. In Reining, senior Nicole Shroyer topped the event with a score of 72 as the Aggies closed the meet with a monumental win.
The collective efforts across all four events helped lift UC Davis from No. 10 to No. 9 in this week's national rankings.
The Horned Frogs, previously ranked No. 5, dropped to No. 8 in this week's poll following the meet.
