The short story: It took 13 innings, but for the second straight day, UC Davis won in walk-off fashion over Cal State Bakersfield, with
Alex Gouveia's hit-by-pitch being the deciding factor. The win helped UC Davis secure their first winning season since 2015, and just the third ever in the program's Division I era.
LEADING OFF
- After playing hero yesterday, Wolbert again paced the Aggie offense, collecting three hits to give him his third straight multi-hit game
- Carter Delaney was lockdown out of the bullpen, tossing 4.0 innings giving up just one run while collecting two strikeouts
- Damian Stone also collected three hits alongside Wolbert
- The Aggies made their presence felt in the fifth, scoring four runs with a pair of two-RBI doubles from Ryan Lee and Gouveia
- Cal State Bakersfield was led offensively by Cody Hendriks who was 4-for-6 with three runs scored
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Aggies got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning
- The Roadrunners failed to push any runs across before the Aggies built on their lead in the third inning
- UC Davis picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Nick Leehey, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Aggies
- Cal State Bakersfield narrowed UC Davis' lead to 3-2 before the Aggies stretched it to a commanding 7-2 lead in the fifth inning
- The Aggies bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including the pair of aforementioned doubles from Lee and Gouveia
- Cal State Bakersfield then rallied, scoring six unanswered runs to take an 8-7 lead before UC Davis scored two runs in the bottom half of the thirteenth to grab the win, walking it off when freshman Jaxon Murphy came across to score on Gouveia's hit-by-pitch
