The short story: UC Davis' four-game win streak was snapped on Mother's Day as four different Titan pitchers combined to limit the Aggies to just one run in Sunday's finale.
LEADING OFF
- It was a nailbiter on Sunday, as the UC Davis Aggies came up one run short of victory, losing to the Cal State Fullerton Titans, 2-1
- Noel Valdez and the Aggie pitching staff contributed in a big way with Valdez allowing just two runs across 5.1 innings
- The rest of the staff combined to allow no runs for the rest of the game, keeping UC Davis within striking distance throughout
- Riley Acosta was a standout offensively, bringing in the Aggies lone run in the game with a solo homer in the fourth
- Moises Guzman from Cal State Fullerton went 2-for-4 with an RBI
- Jason Blood led the Titans pitching staff, throwing 4.0 innings of one-run ball
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a classic pitchers duel, runs weren't put on the board until the fourth
- The Aggies got on the scoreboard first with Acosta's solo-shot signaling the only runs of the game for UC Davis
- The Aggies were unable to hold the lead, as Cal State Fullerton scored a pair of runs in the sixth
- Cal State Fullerton would turn the game over to Seth Tomczak late, and he would go on to pick up his fifth save of the season to help the Titans avoid the series sweep
