TEMPE, Ariz. — The UC Davis women's lacrosse team fell, 21-11, against Arizona State in their 2024 regular season finale on Saturday. The loss puts the Aggies' (9-7, 2-5) Pac-12 Tournament hopes in jeopardy, as Cal can grab the sixth and final postseason seed with a win over Stanford this evening. If Stanford prevails, UC Davis will face Colorado in the opening round of the postseason.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Sun Devils scored the first three goals of the game and never looked back, taking a 10-2 lead into halftime. Ellie Raffo and Ella Brislin each scored first half goals for UC Davis.
Natalie Markman scored four times in the third quarter, helping the Aggies mount a minor comeback, lessening the deficit to five, 12-7, midway through the fourth quarter. Arizona State regrouped, getting back two goals before the end of the period.
Cami Johnson and Grace Gebhardt each scored to bring the Aggies back within five, 14-9, but Arizona State went on a 6-1 scoring run, to take an insurmountable 20-10 advantage. Rhea Cosand and Reese Loseke both scored before the conclusion of the game.
UP NEXT
With a loss from Cal, the Aggies will move into the sixth seed in the Pac-12 and will face third seed Colorado in the opening round of the Pac-12 Tournament. That game will be played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on May 1.
