DAVIS, Calif. —
Grace Gebhardt and
Reese Loseke combined for seven goals in the Aggies' 18-7 Tuesday afternoon victory over the Winthrop Eagles. With the win, UC Davis moves to 6-0 at home for the first time in program history, and have tied the program record set by the 2007 team for the most home wins in a season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles put a scare into the Aggies in the early-going, scoring two goals in the first five minutes of the contest. Gebhardt helped stabilize UC Davis with a quick response, but the Eagles once again had an answer, scoring to get back ahead by two, 3-1.
Another Gebhardt goal sparked an Aggie scoring run, as Catie McCauley and Claire Moats soon found the back of the net to give UC Davis their first lead. Winthrop scored before the end of the quarter to send the game into the second tied at four.
UC Davis took control of the game in the second quarter, outsourcing the Eagles 6-1 in the period. Winthrop's lone score was bookended by three Aggie goals, first from Gebhardt, Rhea Cosand and Natalie Markman, then Ella Brislin, Annie Cimperman and Loseke scored to finish the half.
Ellie Raffo scored her fourth career goal and Gebhardt put in her fourth of the day to begin the third quarter. Cami Johnson scored off a set up from Brislin to counteract a Winthrop goal before the end of the period.
The Aggies scored five straight goals coming out of the quarter break, a run highlighted by Sierra Lizerbram's first career goal. Lizerbram forced a turnover on defense and ran the length of the field for the score.
Winthrop scored with seconds remaining to bring the final score to 18-7.
Ashley Laing finished with 11 saves and a ground ball, while Lizerbram led the defense with two ground balls and four caused turnovers.
