TEMPE, Ariz. —
Alannah Scott registered a hat trick, but it wasn't enough as Niagara triumphed over UC Davis 13-9 in the Aggies' season opener.
Niagara took the first lead of the game and held that lead for much of the game after surviving an early run from the Aggies.
UC Davis freshmen Catie McCauley and Cami Johnson stepped up, providing two goals apiece. Johnson added an assist on top of her scoring efforts.
Ashley Laing recorded double digit saves and Sierra Lizerbram and Natalie Markman collected two ground balls each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC Davis (0-1) scored three straight goals in the first quarter to build a 3-1 lead over the Purple Eagles in the early going, but Niagara battled back to end the period tied 3-3.
Niagara opened the second quarter with two more goals before McCauley halted the run with her second goal of the day.
Niagara's Lexi Braniecki and Andra Savage scored back-to-back goals to extend their lead to three. Braniecki and Savage combined to score nine of the Purple Eagles' 13 goals.
Regan Arkless and Johnson scored to bring the Aggies within one, but Niagara once again had an answer, eventually building out an 11-7 advantage early in the fourth quarter.
