DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis senior guard
Elijah Pepper has been announced the Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his efforts during the week of Jan. 29 - Feb. 4, the conference office announced on Monday.
The Big West's leading scorer, Pepper averaged 20.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game en route to another 2-0 week for the Aggies.
On a nationally televised game in a hostile Thunderdome environment down in Santa Barbara, Pepper tied for a team-high 24 points to take down preseason favorite UC Santa Barbara for the season sweep. Pepper finished his performance against the Gauchos with 24 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals in the Aggies 79-69 win.
Continuing with the central coast trip, Pepper scored 16 points and recorded 8 rebounds against Cal Poly to help UC Davis down the Mustangs.
With another two games in double figures to his resume, Pepper has now scored 10 or more points in 12 straight contests and stands as the lone player in the conference averaging more than 20 PPG on the season.
Making it all more impressive, Pepper achieved these numbers all on the road as the Aggies were able to notch two big-time wins to keep stay right near the top of the Big West standings.
This is Pepper's second Big West Player of the Week honor of the season and his fifth career recognition. Earlier in the year, the Aggies' all-time leading scorer was announced by College Insider as one of the 40 names to the 2023-24 Lou Henson mid-season Watch List, an award bestowed to the best Mid-Major basketball player.
The Aggies are 9-2 in Big West action and look to continue this upward trend when UC Davis hosts Cal State Fullerton Thursday at the University Credit Union Center, before traveling to Hawai'i on Saturday.
