ABOUT THE LANCERS
CBU is 5-3 to start the year, securing the series victory over Big West foe, UC Riverside recently. Against the Highlanders, CBU was led by Mitchel Simon, who had a stellar performance at the bat over the weekend. The junior registered seven hits, including two home runs, and drove in four runs against the Highlanders. He also added three doubles to his tally, finishing the series with a team-high .412 batting average. On the pitching side, Cody New was instrumental in shutting down the Highlanders' hitters. He threw five scoreless innings in two appearances.

This week for CBU, the Lancers are expected to start RHP Ryan Delgado, RHP Lukas Pirko, and RHP Brandon Downer in order, with the fourth game's starter to be determined.

AGGIE NOTES
UC Davis stormed its way to a 17-3 win over Pacific on Tuesday, thanks to a huge third inning that saw the Aggies score 10 runs. The Aggies' offense was on fire from the beginning, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Mark Wolbert started the game with a triple to right center, setting the tone for the Aggies. Nick Leehey followed with a two-run homer to left field, his second of the season, for two of his four RBIs on the day.

UC Davis also held Pacific hitless until the fifth inning, and with the help of the 10-run inning, before you knew it, the Aggies held a commanding 14-0.

The Aggies' pitching staff was dominant, led by Alejandro Huezo (1-0), who earned the win with two hitless and scoreless innings of relief. He was the most effective of the six pitchers used by UC Davis (5-2). Sal Batres and Carter Speights also impressed, each striking out three batters in one inning of work.

On offense, the Aggies were led by Nick Leehey, who homered and drove in four runs, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Jason Hanson and Braydon Wooldridge also had three hits each, with Hanson adding a double and two RBIs, and Wooldridge hitting a double and a walk.

Prior to their win over Pacific, the Aggies secured a series victory against BYU. The Aggies recovered from a game one loss to take the final two games of the series against Cougars.

This past Saturday, Noel Valdez struck out nine Cougars in six innings, earning the 9-5 victory for UC Davis. While on Friday, Tyler Wood and Carter Delaney combined for five hitless and scoreless innings of relief, striking out seven BYU batters.

At the plate, Mark Wolbert was the star for the Aggies, going 7-15 (.467) in the series, scoring four runs, driving in three, and hitting two doubles.

The series win over BYU was UC Davis' second straight to start the season, and their first ever against a Big 12 opponent. It also continues the Aggies' impressive start, which matches their abbreviated 2020 season, one of the best in their Division I history.

UP NEXT
Following the series against CBU, the Aggies will take a trip across the Causeway for a rivalry game against the Sacramento State Hornets on Tuesday, Mar. 5.
