DAVIS, Calif. —
Antreas Djakouris has been named this week's Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Week. After a great weekend at home, the senior walked away with one doubles win, that secured the doubles point for his team, and two singles wins. This is Djakouris' second career honor.
The native of Cyprus kicked off last weekend's matches against Santa Clara in an intense doubles match paired with
Brett Brinkmann. The duo battled it out and ultimately took the win and secured the first point of the day for the Aggies in a tiebreaker set, 7-6 . He also competed in singles play on court 3 against Santa Clara's Sebastian Buxman where he won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. He contributed to two of the three points won for UC Davis in their morning match.
He brought the momentum of the first match into the next against Jessup University. Djakouris had an unfinished doubles match, which him and partner Brinkman, were up 3-2 when it was called off after the Ags won two of the three doubles matches. He also had another straight set victory against Austrebeto Carlon of Jessup 6-0, 6-3 only giving up 3 games total between the two sets.
The Aggies next match is scheduled for Thursday February 22 against Stanford on their home turf.
