WHAT HEAD COACH JENNIFER GROSS HAD TO SAY
"We had a little longer layoff after the holidays this year so coming back we were just really focused on bringing a ton of energy to the court. It was really good to see our shots dropping so hopefully we can carry that into next week."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After exchanging threes with the Keelhaulers in the game's opening seconds, the Ags used six straight points from Megan Norris to lead by as much as 20 halfway through the first.
- Cal Maritime looked to respond with a layup in the final minute of the frame, but an 8-0 run from Davis gave them the 33-7 lead after 10 minutes.
- Quarter number two was all Aggies, with threes from Norris, Tova Sabel, and Ally Fitzgerald building a 53-7 advantage going into the locker room.
- Coming into the second half, the scoring continued in troves for UC Davis, with Avery Sussex and Clara Glad combining for 14 points to build a 64-point lead going into the final quarter, 84-19.
- Despite the large lead, the Aggies continued to stifle Cal Maritime, holding their opponent to zero points in the first five minutes of the fourth.
- However, the Keelhaulers refused to bow out, going point-for-point with the Aggies through the last few minutes, scoring 10 of the game's next 17.
- A three-pointer from Victoria Baker and a layup from Sahana Kanagasabay closed out the scoring for UC Davis, giving them the 115-29 win.
UP NEXT: The Aggies will stay at home as they resume conference play on Thursday, Jan. 2, when they face the Roadrunners of Cal State Bakersfield. Gametime is set for 6:00 p.m. PT.
