UC Davis Falls Short In Home Rematch Against Hawaii

Score:  UC Davis 1, Hawaii 3
Set Scores: 24-26, 25-21, 9-25, 18-25
Location: Davis, Calif. (University Credit Union Center)
Records: UC Davis 15-8 (10-4), Hawaii 16-8 (10-4)

The short story: UC Davis volleyball fought hard but ultimately fell to Hawaii in four sets, as the Rainbow Wahine's powerful offense and relentless defense proved too much for the Aggies to overcome in their second matchup of the season.

FIRST SERVE

  • Junior Jade Light finished with 15 kills, hitting .224 and adding one service ace.

  • Sophomore Mia Starr had a night, finishing with 37 assists while only committing a pair of errors. The Aggie setter also threw in 10 digs.

  • Senior Julia Ng finished the night with 12 total digs.

  • Sophomore Allie Caldwell had six kills hitting .500 during the match.

  • In the Big West standings, the Aggies stay in Davis for the rest of the season, sitting in second place with a conference record tied with Hawaii.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Set one was a battle with both sides exchanging points the entire time. Hawaii ultimately came out on top with a kill from Stella Adeyemi to win 26-24.

  • In set two, the Aggies came out strong and led almost the entire time. Although Hawaii came back on a couple of multiple-point runs, the Aggies held them off and won the set 25-21.

  • Set three started with three errors in a row alternating from both teams.

  • The Rainbow Wahine collected themselves and went on a four-point run to put them up 13-7 in the third.

  • UC Davis tried to come back but Hawaii's offense was too strong, and an Aggie attack error ended the third set with Hawaii on top 25-9.

  • A huge kill by Allie Caldwell tied the fourth set early on for the Aggies.

  • Not shortly after, Hawaii went on a multiple-point run to put them up 10-6, which was broken up by a huge kill from Light.

  • The Rainbow Wahine continued to press as they went on a five-point run to put them up 15-8 in the fourth set. Despite an Aggie rally, Hawaii was able to hold them off and take set four 18-25.

UP NEXT: The Aggies remain in Davis and the Big West for the remainder of the season taking on CSUN on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. PST.
