HOW IT HAPPENED
- Midway through the opening set, the Aggies ripped off a three-point run that gave them a 14-10 advantage, during that stretch Starr held serve assisting on a sophomore Reese Diersbock kill that helped build out the Aggie lead
- At 16-14 another three-point stretch, with Utterback holding serve, pushed UC Davis out in front 19-14 late in the first set
- Utterback smashed home the set-winning kill, on an assist from Starr, to give Davis a 25-19 set victory and a 1-0 lead
- While Cal State Bakersfield took the second set, the Aggies nearly locked down the set, getting within 22-21 late in the action
- But three out of the last four points would go the way of the Roadrunners to make it 25-22 and it evened out the score at 1-1
- Early in the third set the Aggies faced an 6-1 deficit, but it was short lived as eventually the Aggies caught up to the Roadrunners
- At 15-13, with Cal State Bakersfield holding a small lead, UC Davis went on a run, led by Starr holding serve and a pair of kills from Chandler the Aggies surpassed the Roadrunners and created their own 18-15 lead
- The final four points would be Aggie points and on a Starr assist, Utterback smashed home the set-winning set to lock up a 25-19 third set win
- 12-12 would be the closest that Cal State Bakersfield would get to the Aggies in the fourth set, getting a pair of four point runs to help build out a late lead they would not relinquish
- And when Diersbock smashed home the match winning kill, UC Davis had locked up a 25-19 fourth set win to give them a 3-1 conference win.Â
