BERKELEY, Calif. — Kelly Hungerford notched four goals and an assist, but it wasn't enough, as No. 3 Cal handled No. 14 UC Davis 18-8 on Sunday afternoon.
The Aggies remained level with the Golden Bears through the first four minutes of the contest after goals from Hungerford and sophomore attacker Gianna Nocetti.
Cal quickly rallied for a 4-0 run to finish the quarter ahead 6-2, and tacked on another five unanswered in the second.
Nocetti tallied her second of the game to lessen the deficit to eight at the half.
Madi Sparre, Liberty Massman and Hungerford each found the back of the net to help move within six, but that would be as close as the Aggies got. Hungerford put away her third of the game to stop a 3-0 Cal run, then added her final score towards the end of the affair.
UC Davis is back in action next weekend at the Triton Invite in La Jolla. The Aggies take on Long Beach State at 1:20 p.m. to begin the tournament.
