Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FRESNO, Calif. — The UC Davis women's water polo team battled with two top ten opponents on the first day of action at the Fresno State Invitational tournament, coming up short in both affairs.

The Aggies hung around through the first quarter of play in the morning game against No. 4 Cal, going into the break down 4-3. Liberty Massman registered the first goal of the 2024 season for UC Davis and Ali Guisti and Gianna Nocetti added scores.

The Golden Bears ramped up their defense the rest of the way, holding the Aggies to just one more goal, a third period score by Ryan Sund. Cal took the first of three scheduled matchups with UC Davis, 13-4.

Fresno State jumped out to a fast start in the second game of the day, building a 4-0 lead midway through the first period. 

Massman was once again first on the board for UC Davis, and Sadie Henry added her name to the scoresheet before the first seven minutes expired. 

Sam Yoo found the back of the net with under a minute to go in the half to bring the Aggies within seven, but the Bulldogs kept their foot on the gas, expanding the lead through the third quarter. 

Yoo scored again in the third and Ally Smith recorded her first of the season in the fourth quarter, but Fresno State finished the contest with a 18-5 advantage.

The Aggies are back in action tomorrow afternoon for two games against top five ranked UC Irvine and Stanford.
