DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis football team (2-2, 0-1) dropped its Big Sky Conference opener to Eastern Washington (2-2, 1-0), 27-24, on Saturday night in front a program record 14,724 fans at UC Davis Health Stadium.
Lan Larison posted the third highest single game rushing total in program history when he amassed 255 yards and a score on 22 carries. The Idaho native had over 200 yards in the first half.
Miles Hastings passed for 163 yards, tossing two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Hastings' most prolific target in the ballgame was
Josh Gale, who caught six passes for 54 yards and one score.
Trent Tompkins hauled in 10 balls for 51 yards and one touchdown.
Evan Bearden led the UC Davis defensive effort, recording 1.0 TFL, one sack, and forced a fumble.
Rex Connors registered 11 tackles and
Evan Tattersall added 10.
UC Davis put together a big outing on the ground, gaining 272 rushing yards while averaging 7.6 yards per carry and out-rushing Eastern Washington by 161 yards.
UC Davis grabbed a 3-0 lead over Eastern Washington after scoring the game's first points with 6:19 left in the first quarter. Eastern Washington then scored to take a 17-3 lead before the Aggies put a touchdown on the board to close the gap and make it a 17-10 game.
The Aggies followed with another score with :23 left in the second quarter to tie things up at 17-17. The Eagles then took control of the lead, building a 20-17 advantage before the Aggies got on the scoreboard again with a four-yard touchdown pass from Hastings to Tompkins to retake the lead at 24-20.
EWU then claimed the victory on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter and used a blocked field goal late in the contest.
UC Davis will hit the road to face Cal Poly on Saturday, Sept. 30. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
