COMMERCE, Texas - UC Davis used a huge 279-yard showing on the ground, including 109 yards from
Lan Larison, and five rushing touchdowns to pick up a 48-10 win against Texas A&M-Commerce Thursday night on the road at Ernest Hawkins Field at Memorial Stadium.
The 38 point victory was the most in a season-opener since a 41-3 win over Azusa Pacific in 2012.
Larison led all rushers with 109 yards and three touchdowns in the contest, picking up 6.8 yards per carry.
Matteo Perez also added 88 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 6.8 yards per carry. As a team, the Ags boasted 6.2 yards per carry.
Josh Gale reeled in three catches for 61 yards and one score.
Trent Tompkins hauled in six balls for 61 yards.
C.J. Hutton caught three passes to move his consecutive games with a catch streak to 24.
Miles Hastings threw for 239 yards through the air, tossing one touchdown.
Markeece Alexander turned in a solid defensive effort, recording five tackles, 1.0 TFL, one sack, and one interception.
Jehiel Budgett added five tackles and one interception and
Mario Minor had one interception in the win.
Zach Kennedy also added a sack.
UC Davis forced three turnovers in Thursday's contest. The Aggies also had an outstanding day offensively, racking up 529 total yards, 279 on the ground and 250 through the air, while averaging 6.8 yards per play and out-gaining Texas A&M-Commerce, 529-285. UC Davis converted on 54.5 percent of third-down attempts on the day.
Defensively, UC Davis held up well against the Texas A&M-Commerce offensive attack, holding the Lions to 285 total yards. The Aggies kept TAMC under 150 yards on both the ground and through the air, allowing 143 passing and 142 rushing yards. The UCD defense disrupted the Texas A&M-Commerce passing attack on the way to grabbing three interceptions and breaking up two passes. The Lions could only muster 57 total yards in the first half.
UC Davis put points on the board on eight different occasions on their way to scoring 48 points. The Aggies got on the board first, taking the lead for good at 3-0 with 8:24 left in the first quarter.
Hunter Ridley converted a chance from 37 yards out to end a nine-play, 55-yard scoring drive. He went a perfect 2-for-2 on the day. The Ags then scored on four more drives in the opening half.
UC Davis will head to Corvallis, Ore. To face Oregon State on Saturday, Sept. 9.
