Aggies Fall to Oregon in Overtime Heartbreaker

EUGENE, Ore. – UC Davis women's lacrosse suffered a heart-breaking 13-12 overtime loss to Oregon on Saturday afternoon at Papé Field.

The Aggies (7-4) held a comfortable lead after one quarter of play, but the Ducks would storm back into the game to keep pace with UC Davis down the stretch. Down by two goals with just over three minutes remaining in regulation, the hosts scored twice, including a goal with 13 seconds left on the clock, to send the game to overtime. It was Morgan McCarthy's winner with 31 ticks remaining in the extra period that lifted the Ducks to their narrow victory.

Mia Lawrence and Rhea Cosand each posted a hat trick in the game, pacing the Aggies offensively. Alannah Scott continued her blistering form by scoring twice, making it five straight multi-goal games for the sophomore.

How It Happened
Lauren Hart opened the scoring at the 10:43 mark in the first quarter before Oregon canceled it out with a goal just over a minute later. UC Davis then entered its best stretch of the game when Grace Gebhardt, Cosand, and Scott netted three consecutive goals to extend the lead to 4-1. The Ducks got one back, but Lawrence fired home with 15 seconds left in the first period to make the score 5-2 after 15 minutes played.

The two teams traded goals to start the second quarter before Oregon rattled off four straight goals to take their first lead. Scott pulled one back to round out the first half scoring, and the two teams would head into the locker room with score tied at 7-7.

The Ducks scored twice to start the third quarter, but Brooke Tokushige and Cosand leveled things up at 9-9 as the game head into the fourth.

Oregon struck first, however, Lawrence, Cosand, and Katie Jones would score to put the Aggies in front (12-10) with just over three minutes to play. The hosts roared back into the game when Morgan McCarthy and Haley Taylor scored in the dying seconds to send the game to an extra five minutes.
