Aggies Downed by Golden Bears

DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis women's lacrosse made its return to UC Davis Health Stadium to host future PAC-12 opponent, Cal, on Saturday afternoon, but the Golden Bears managed the 17-12 victory.

The Aggies (7-5) struggled on the draw as Cal held a 20-13 advantage in that category. This allowed the Bears to create a multitude of scoring chances, totaling 38 shots while UC Davis mustered just 23. The hosts also committed 29 fouls and surrendered 12 free position shots in the contest.

Alex Agnew led the way with three goals and one assist, racking up her sixth hat trick of the year. Grace Gebhardt was a force on the offensive end with her game-high three assists while also chipping in with two goals. This marks the ninth multi-goal game for the sophomore.

Alannah Scott, Rhea Cosand, and Lily Manos scored two goals apiece to round out the UC Davis attack.

In goal, Ashley Laing made 10 stops for her ninth double-digit haul of the season.

How It Happened
Agnew quickly opened the scoring by finishing off a nice pass from Gebhardt from point blank range. Cal found its form, however, netting three straight goals to take the lead. Agnew scored her second goal at the 9:35 mark before another three-goal scoring run gave the Bears a 6-2 lead. The Davis native completed her first quarter hat rick to keep things close, making the score 6-3 after the first 15 minutes.

UC Davis battle back in the second quarter, out-scoring Cal 5-2 to tie things up. Cosand, Gebhardt, and Manos sparked a three-goal run to give the Aggies some life. In the last two minutes of the half, Cosand and Gebhardt scored again to make it 9-9 at the break.

Cal turned things around in the third period, scoring seven times to take a commanding lead. UC Davis cut the lead to four early in the last quarter, but the visitors were out of sight, coming away with the 17-12 win.
