Aggies Set for Five Games This Week; Host Cal on Tuesday

DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis softball team will continue its homestand with a matchup with Cal on Tuesday and then head to the Silicon Valley Classic Tournament co-hosted by San Jose State and Santa Clara for four games this weekend.

The Aggies will face the Golden Bears at La Rue Field at 3 p.m. on Tuesday and then start tournament play on Friday, March 10. The Ags play Rhode Island in San Jose at Noon on Friday and then play host San Jose State immediately after at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday, March 11 in Santa Clara, UC Davis will face Utah State at Noon and then play Santa Clara at 2:30 p.m.

GOING STREAKING
UC Davis has won four games in a row, capping off the Capital Classic with those four wins. Over that streak, the Aggies have outscored the opposition, 18-5, are hitting at a .317 clip and boast a 0.75 ERA. The Ags have been aggressive on the basepaths, swiping 10 bases in 12 attempts. Bella Pahulu is one of three Aggies hitting .400 or higher, leading the team with a .455 average, adding a double and a run. Leah Polson sports a .417 clip with four runs and two RBI. Sarah Nakahara comes in at .400 with a triple.

RUNNING WILD
Over the four-game winning streak, the Aggies have been running wild on opposing catchers. In the last four games, the Ags have stolen 10 bases in 12 attempts. Anna Dethlefson leads the charge with five thefts in five attempts, including three in one game. Sarah Starks is a perfect 2-for-2 on the base paths, while Polson, Nakahara and Grace Kilday each have a stolen base. On the season, UCD is 22-for-24 on the basepaths.

KEEPING HITTERS AT BAY
The UC Davis pitching staff is off to a hot start in non-conference play. The Aggies sport a team ERA of 1.76 and are holding opposing batters to just a .225 average. Four Aggie hurlers boast an ERA under 2.00 as Sarah Reineman leads the squad with a 1.18 ERA in 23.2 innings pitched. Kenedi Brown sports a 1.35 ERA and has baffled hitters with a .143 average against. Taylor Fitzgerald has a 1.56 mark in 27 innings, while newcomer Carolina Grimes has a 1.97 ERA in 10.2 innings.

BROWN EARNS SEVENTH WEEKLY HONOR
UC Davis righthander Kenedi Brown was named the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week for the seventh time in her career. On the week, the Elk Grove native went 2-1 with a 0.88 ERA. She struck out 17 in 16 innings pitched and held opposing batters to just a .173 average. Brown was nearly unhittable at the Capital Classic, posting an unblemished 0.00 ERA and holding the field to just a .119 average in her two starts. The junior struck out 14 in 13 innings, allowed just five hits and posted a shutout.

CONFERENCE PLAY ARRIVING SOON
Next week the Aggies will open Big West play on the road against preseason conference favorite Cal State Fullerton. The Aggies will begin the series with a doubleheader on Friday, which will begin at 4 p.m.
