MOON TOWNSHIP, Penn. – UC Davis kicked off the three-game road trip with a convincing 17-10 victory over Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon.
The Aggies (6-3) battled to a 3-3 tie after one quarter of play, but then played on the front foot for the remaining three quarters, out-scoring the Colonials 14-7 in the last 45 minutes of action.
Alex Agnew enjoyed an excellent performance, delivering a season-high eight points. The Davis native scored a game-high five goals and dished out three assists, converting on all five of her shot attempts. She also grabbed a team-high four ground balls, making an impact in all areas of the game.
Grace Gebhardt continued her brilliance on the attacking end, making it four straight hat tricks for the sophomore.
Alannah Scott netted a hat trick as well, her fourth of the year.
In goal,
Ashley Laing made 10 saves to post her seventh double-digit haul of the season.
How It Happened
UC Davis got the perfect start when Scott found the back of the net as her 14
th goal of the season gave her team the early lead. The hosts leveled the score at 1-1 just over a minute later, but
Lauren Hart's free-position shot restored the Aggies' advantage. The teams traded goals for the remainder of the quarter and it would be all square (3-3) after the first 15 minutes.
Regan Arkless quickly put her team in front with her early goal in the second period.
Rhea Cosand followed with a goal of her own, giving UC Davis its first multi-goal lead. The Aggies' defense stepped up, holding the Colonials to just one goal in the second quarter. Goals from
Mia Lawrence and Cosand to allowed UC Davis to extend the lead to 7-4 at the break.
The Aggies picked up where they left off in the third quarter action when Agnew netted her second goal of the game to push the lead to four goals. Scott also scored to make it a two-goal day before Robert Morris finally ended its scoring drought. UC Davis took full control of the contest from that point, out-scoring the Colonials 5-1 in the remaining minutes of the third quarter to take a 14-6 into the fourth.
The hosts cut the lead to five in the final period, but goals from the terrific trio of Gebhart, Scott, and Agnew put the game away, and the Aggies would cruise to the 17-10 victory to begin the road trip with a win.
