DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis got back to its winning ways with a 15-12 victory over Columbia, Saturday night inside UC Davis Health Stadium.
The Aggies (5-3) were in control from start-to-finish in a convincing win for the hosts, taking the lead in the second quarter that they would never surrender. Columbia mustered a late comeback attempt, but
Ashley Laing held strong between the posts to get her team across the finish line.
Grace Gebhardt continued to impress in the attack, notching her third consecutive game with four or more goals. The attack found the back of the net four times to lead the team while picking up four draw controls.
Alex Agnew and
Lauren Picardi each recorded a hat trick as the duo connected well in the attacking third.
Ella Brislin and
Alannah Scott continued to shine offensively with two goals apiece.
Sophia Gorona played an important role on the draw, racking up four draw controls on the day.
How It Happened
Brislin opened the scoring at the 12:40 mark before the Lions would cancel it out just over two minutes later. However, three straight goals from
Lauren Hart, Agnew, and Gebhardt would force a Columbia timeout after the Aggies had built some early momentum. The visitors regrouped after the timeout and rallied for a three-goal run of their own, knotting it up at 4-4 after one quarter of play.
UC Davis regained control in the second period when Agnew, Gebhardt, and Picardi netted three quick goals to restore the three-goal advantage. Gebhardt added one more score before the break and the Aggies would take an 8-5 lead at the half.
A dominant third quarter allowed the Aggies to put the game out of reach. Brislin and Scott extended the UC Davis lead before Picardi registered two more goals. Scott completed her hat trick and suddenly the Aggies had built a six-goal lead (13-7) heading into the last 15 minutes.
Agnew and Gebhardt scored in the fourth quarter to further extend the advantage. Columbia rattled off four straight goals to close the gap to three, but UC Davis hung on for the 15-12 to snap its two-game skid.
