DAVIS, Calif.– UC Davis Women's Lacrosse team earned a well-fought 14-13 victory over American University and is now on a four-game win streak.
The Aggies (4-1) scored the first five goals for an early lead going into the second. However, the Eagles would mount a comeback throughout the second and third to take the lead going into the fourth. But, in that fourth-quarter the Ags would out-score American 5-2 and notch their fourth straight victory. UCD out-shot American 36-31 and each had 23 shots-on-goal.
Alex Agnew had a team-high five points in the contest. The senior found the back of the net twice and dished a pair of assists.
Ella Brislin, Mia Lawrence ,and
Grace Gebhardt, all contributed a pair of goals to secure the win. Brislin also snagged a game-high six ground balls, in which the Ags had a slight 14-13 edge over the Eagles.
Lauren Picardi, who also contributed two-goals, had the most-important goal of the night. The sophomore stepped up and nailed the game-winning shot for her fifth on the year.
How It Happened
UC Davis had a similar start to the game and scored the first five-goals before American got their first. Each came from a different scorer; first
Ella Brislin, followed by
Mia Lawrence, then
Lauren Hart to close out the first, another from
Grace Gebhardt, and the fifth from
Brooke Tokushige going into the second. At the beginning of the second the score was 6-1 in favor of the home team.
In the second-quarter Agnew and Gebhardt would each score another for the Ags. But, UCD would allow four Eagle goals as well. At half the score was 7-4 in favor of the Aggies.
The third-quarter had a shift in momentum. UC Davis would get scores from Brislin and Agnew. But, allow seven American goals in the third. By the end of the quarter the Eagles had a 11-9 lead on the Ags.
But, in the titular fourth-quarter, the Ags would out-score American 5-2. Scores from
Mia Lawrence and
Lauren Picardi kicked off the final quarter and tied the game 11-11. After, each team exchanged goals before American found the back of the net with six-minutes left to take a 13-12 lead.
However– a goal from
Regan Arkless, after an Agnew assist, would tie the game 13-13 with five minutes to go. As no less than 40-seconds later Picardi would hit the game winning shot and secure the 14-13 win.
