UC Davis Heads to Hawai'i to Begin February Slate

DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis (9-11 5-5 Big West) enters the home stretch of its Big West Conference schedule, beginning with a trip to Hawai'i (8-11, 6-4 Big West) on Thursday night.

As it stands, the Aggies sit in sixth place in the Big West standings, which would see them earning a crucial top-six seed to avoid a play-in game at the conference tournament in March. Hawai'i holds a one-game advantage over UC Davis, making this a contest with important postseason implications for both teams.

LAST TIME OUT
The Aggies earned a wire-to-wire victory over CSU Bakersfield for their third straight conference win. Victoria Baker enjoyed a fantastic performance off the bench, dropping 16 points in just 15 minutes. UC Davis was feeling it from long range with 13 three-pointers in the game, its second-best display of the year.

Long Beach State brought a win streak of its own into Saturday's contest and continued to play terrific basketball, defeating the Aggies 66-45 to bring their run to an end. It was a frustrating day for UC Davis who committed a season-high 25 turnovers while shooting 33.3% from the field. Long Beach State shot nearly 50% from deep and saw four of its five starters finish in double figures.

SERIES HISTORY
This is the 27th all-time meeting between the Aggies and Rainbow Wahine, with Hawai'i coming out victorious in each of the last two games. UC Davis holds the advantage 14-12 but are 6-7 on the road in the all-time series. In February of last year, UC Davis fell 57-50 in the Aloha State. Hawai'i made it back-to-back wins over the Aggies by using a strong second half to earn the 70-62 win in the University Credit Union Center on Dec. 29.

ABOUT THE RAINBOW WAHINE
Hawai'i is coming off a 51-47 road win over CSU Bakersfield. Last Thursday, the Rainbow Wahine squandered a fourth-quarter lead to UC Santa Barbara, who recorded the 72-69 victory.

Hawai'i does not feature a top-10 scorer in the conference but bring the third-best defense into Thursday's matchup. The Rainbow Wahine have also surrendered the fewest rebounds in the Big West with Kallin Spiller dominating the glass, grabbing 7.4 boards-per-game.

Both teams rank in the top three in the Big West for three-pointers attempted, with UC Davis occupying the top spot and Hawai'i in third. Lily Wahinekapu leads the way offensively at 10.9 points-per-game and Daejah Phillips is right behind her at 10.8.

Evanne Turner became the 22nd Aggie in UC Davis women's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points following her excellent offensive display on Jan. 19. The Fontana native notched a game-high 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting with four three-pointers.

THE THREE-POINT QUEEN
By knocking down her 196th career three-pointer on Jan. 16 against UC San Diego, Evanne Turner broke the UC Davis program record for three-point field goals. Lori Hurlburt held the previous record, making 194 from 1997-2001. Turner currently leads the Big West in three-pointers made (45) and three-pointers-per-game (2.8). She is 27th in the nation for three-pointers-per game and ranks 33rd nationally for total threes.
