Aggies Grind Out Five-Set Win Over Titans

DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis finally earned its first home win of the 2023 season after grinding out an impressive five-set victory (25-23, 18-25, 25-19, 16-25, 15-9) over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday afternoon in the University Credit Union Center.

The Aggies get back to .500 on the year, improving to 12-12 overall (7-7 Big West) as they snap a three-game skid to get back in the win column. The Titans fall to 1-22 (0-14 Big West) and remain winless in Big West play.

"It was nice to see us break into the win column at home," said Head Coach Dan Conners. "We played very good volleyball at times, but were a little inconsistent throughout the match. It was great to see Amara [Aimufua] come out and perform well in this match as she was very efficient as an attacker today."

It was a bit sloppy for UC Davis, hitting just .199 as a team with 24 attack errors and 13 service errors but the Aggies manage to use big performances from Jade Light and Amara Aimufua to find their pathway to the win.

Light delivered a monstrous performance with a team-high 13 kills while snuffing out 13 digs defensively.

Enjoying her second straight game in double figures was Aimufua with 12 kills at a team-best hitting percentage .417.

Olivia Utterback posted her second consecutive double-double with 10 kills and team-high 17 digs in another big day for the junior.

Allie Caldwell put in massive defensive showing with five blocks from the middle blocker spot while fellow freshman Ally Chandler put down five kills while chipping in with three blocks.

Julia Ng notched 14 digs on the defensive end to help get the Aggies to the finish line.
